U15 & U18 National Championship Wrap-up
Published Mon 19 Apr 2021
It was awesome to see both groups get away after a tough 2020 with no national competition. SA finished with mixed results in Bathurst (U15) & Launceston (U18) but nonetheless it was fantastic to see the level of competitiveness on the big stage. Our U18 girls finished 7th out of 10 teams and our U15 Girls came 8th from 12. The U15 Boys finished 9th out of 11 with Bryce Hammond coming 4th in the competition’s goal scoring tally, while the U18 Boys came 9th.
U18 Coach and Hockey SA Athlete & Coach Development Manager, Dan Mitchell said “Both groups played some great hockey throughout the competition, just falling short of their desired results in a few games early. The groups both steadily improved through the tournament finishing off positively with a win each in their final games for the competition. It was great to see everyone back and at national championship level with plenty to build on from here. “
U15 Girls Michaela Gallie wrote “From the very first training to the last game the entire experience was incredible. From getting to know the girls, to improving as a player, and creating unforgettable memories I can honestly say it was an amazing opportunity. I am so proud of how the team came together over the tournament improving during each game.
Congratulations to all the players, coaches, team managers, volunteers and to Hockey Australia, Hockey Tasmania & Hockey NSW for hosting the events. We are proud of the way our athletes and teams carried themselves both on and off field. No doubt the players had valuable experiences that will continue to be developed through our local competitions and high performance programs into the future and beyond.
