Super League Update

Published Tue 22 Jun 2021

The 2021 Super League is a continuation of the High Performance initiative which was formed in 2018. It consists of two zone teams, selected from the local Premier League competition and nominated by Premier League Coaches. Teams participate in a five round competition, with the two teams playing in an aggregate style series until the final night.

As stated below in the rules, squads will be cut down to 20 players per group for part 2 of the 2021 Super League so this will be a competitive selection process.

SUPER LEAGUE RULES:

As mentioned above, the Super League will play a critical part in the selection of the Adelaide Fire Squads for 2021.

With this in mind, the 2021 Super League will follow the same rules as the Hockey One competition. These rules will come into effect in Part 2 of the competition.

Please see major variations to the rules:

  1. 15 Players in a Match Day Squad – 14 x Field Players, 1 x Goal Keeper
  2. Field Goal Conversion – After a Field Goal is Scored, the player who scored the field goal will have the opportunity to convert a 1v1 shootout to gain 1 x bonus goal.
  3. Squads will be cut down to 20 players total for part 2 of the Super League, the same squad size required for Hockey One
  4. All Teams (teams) will play against each other once and 10 points in total will be available for each match as follows:
    1. 1.1 - six points to the winner and zero points to the loser;
    2. 1.2 - two points to each team, in the event of a draw;

1.2.1 - a shoot-out will occur to determine the outright winner who is awarded a further two points;

    1. 1.3 - one point to the team scoring the most goals in each quarter;

1.3.1 - in the event that no goals are scored by either team in a quarter, or teams have scored an equal number of goals in a quarter, each team is awarded 0.5 points.
