Super League Update
Published Mon 07 Dec 2020
Super League will play its final and deciding matches on Wednesday 9th December at Seacliff Hockey Club.
- Women: Storm V Pirates 6.30pm
- Men: Saints V Storm 8.15pm
Super League has had challenges this year with restrictions leading to disruptions and alterations to the fixture. The flow on affect has seen increases in player unavailability due to a variety of other commitments. In addition, as we creep into the middle of December, heat was bound to impact the season. Saturday the 12th is now expected to be 36 degrees at Gepps Cross which will trigger our heat policy and ability to play.
With player welfare in deep consideration, Hockey SA have made the decision to CANCEL the Super League Grand Final event on Saturday the 12th. Likewise, the U13 City V Country curtain raiser event will be cancelled to avoid the case of extensive regional travel and cancellation on the day. This decision wasn’t made lightly, but we feel is necessary to call early.
Whilst 2020 has added difficulty to the organisation and delivery of quality events in all areas of community sport, it has been great to see the positive support and understanding from the Hockey SA community. The final Super League matches this Wednesday will conclude all High- Performance hockey events for 2020, so it would be great to see that support continue with all restrictions and rules permitting.
We would like to send a big Thank You to the Players, Coaches, Officials and many Volunteers for their time and commitment to growing the game in SA. Your efforts have been incredible.
Go SA!
