FIRE ACADEMY LAUNCH
Published Fri 12 Jun 2020
INTRODUCING THE FIRE ACADEMY:
The Fire Academy is Hockey South Australia’s leading Development & High-Performance Program. The Academy is run by Hockey South Australia’s High-Performance Department and involves intensive skill-based training, modified games, and full-field match play.
Approximately 400 athletes will gain selection into the Academy over the four age groups.
There have been some exciting changes made to the way the Athlete Development will be structured. The 2020 Fire Academy will have four seperate age groups; U13, U15, U18 & U24. Please note, there will be changes in 2021 to the age groups and timelines as 2020 has been affected by COVID-19.
The Fire Academy will provide emerging talent from Regional & Metropolitan areas to develop their tactical and technical skills.
These Academies will be structured to lead into age-specific National Tournaments with various checkpoints along the way i.e. State Trials, State Selection, and State Training.
In 2020, the Fire Academy will be touring to Bendigo, Victoria to play against Hockey Victoria's Academy. These tours will be exclusive to U15 & U18 Academy athletes, with team selections to be made throughout the Academy.
REGIONAL ACADEMIES:
The Fire Academy in Regional Associations will vary in size, shape, and form. They will undoubtedly offer an excellent opportunity for athletes to develop their hockey skills.
For many years Hockey South Australia has had an excellent representation of country-based athletes in junior State Teams and an even better representation in Australian squads. We are striving to continue this long-standing tradition of developing quality regional athletes in South Australia.
To initiate the program, members of the Hockey SA High-Performance Department will be visiting and assisting in the Talent Identification, development of athletes, and supporting staff in the establishment of the Fire Academy.
TALENT ID CAMPS:
Talent ID Camps are a 1-day program that combines intensive skill & tactical development in a competitive environment. Throughout the camp, there will be skill development drills & modified games. The camp provides athletes with the opportunity to not only improve as a hockey player but to be identified by Academy Selectors and the High-Performance Staff for selection into the Fire Academy.
Talent ID Camps are the ONLY entry point into the 2020 Fire Academy.
