Changes to SA participation and pathway eventsĀ

Published Wed 01 Dec 2021

In 2022, Hockey SA are excited to announce changes to our participation and pathway events. These events are focussed on our junior players and providing them with more opportunities to continue to be involved with our great sport both in their local clubs, zones and at State Championship level.

By restructuring the current zones and adding three additional selection carnivals into the annual calendar we will provide more local opportunities for junior players, umpires, and officials to gain more competition experience while providing a clear pathway for progression and qualification.

This will provide our Regional & Metro players with some more variety to their regular club season.

5 new zones

If you would like to participate in the U13’s State Championship in June 2022 or the U15 & U18 Junior State Championship in July 2022. Here is what you need to know and what you need to do:

Hockey SA has divided the state into 5 zones your club has been allocated into the one of the following 5 zones across SA as below:

The three (3) metropolitan zones outlined above are all linked to the ‘Super League’ Zones used as the pathway to senior Adelaide Fire squad selection.

The two (2) regional zones will result in stronger regional teams participating at this level. Providing for a greater ability for players to perform at their best at the Junior State Championship.
We invite you to have some input into your suggested zones name, colour, and logo here.

3 New Selection Carnivals for U15 & U18 Zone Teams

Your Club/Associations will be given the opportunity to enter teams into the relevant zone selection events so let your club know you are keen and attend any trials they run to select their zone team.

Regional Team Selection:
The Development weekends hosted in two (2) Regional locations (TBC) will include Level 1 Coaching Course, Level 1 Umpiring courses, Technical Officials education and umpire & coach assessment opportunities. Clubs/Associations are encouraged to enter Under 15 & 18 Club/Associations Teams into the Boys and Girls competitions and play in a carnival across a weekend in Mayor early June against their fellow zone Clubs/Associations.

The Under 15 & 18 Boys & Girls Regional Zone Teams will be selected from these events.

Hockey SA will appoint key personnel to attend both events to assist with event management, coach and officials’ education and development.

Player Pick Up Pools will be generated out of this selection process. If you don’t make your zone team you could still have the chance to compete.

Metro Zone Selection:
Hockey SA will facilitate a new Hockey 5’s event which will be open to Metropolitan club teams to enter. This event and format will be used as a selection event for the three metropolitan Zones.

U15 & U18 Junior State Championship 15th-17th July 2022
Played across 3 venues across Adelaide U18’s at MATE, U15’s Venues to be confirmed.
Selected players will pay a set fee that covers all your zone training sessions, uniform items, and entry into the event.

U13 State Championship 11th-13th June 2022
