Media release published by Hockey Australia.

The dates and locations for next year’s jam-packed suite of Hockey Australia national championships has been revealed.

The 2023 national hockey calendar will see Queensland, New South Wales, the Northern Territory, Tasmania and Western Australia host events.

First up is the Hockey Australia Indoor Championships to be held at the Brisbane Sports Entertainment Centre from 3-25 January 2023 across five age categories.

Australia’s best Under 21 hockey talent will converge on Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre, the venue that hosted the 2000 Olympics hockey tournament, in March for the national Under 21 Championships.

Attention then turns to the Top End as Darwin hosts the Under 15 Championships in April. It will be the first national hockey tournament in the Northern Territory since 2003.

“This is a great opportunity for the Top End to host a nationally-streamed event and to see live top class hockey on home soil for the first time since 2003,” said Northern Territory Minister for Sport, Kate Worden.

“With 11 clubs and 1,300 hockey members right here in the Territory, this much-anticipated sporting event is a fantastic opportunity for the hockey community in the NT.”

As it did in 2021, Tasmania will again play host to the national Under 18 Championships, this time in Hobart from 1-9 July.

Goulburn in New South Wales will welcome the pick of the country’s regional talent as it hosts the Australian Country Championships in August.

“I am thrilled that Goulburn will host the Country Championships. Events like these cement and further Goulburn’s reputation as a premiere sporting destination,” said Goulburn Mulwaree Council Mayor Peter Walker.

“The new national level facilities at the Goulburn Regional Hockey Centre mean that we can host this event and more into the future, injecting a significant economic benefit into the local economy.”

This will be followed by the Under 13 Carnival in Newcastle in September.

Rounding it off will be a Mega Masters event in Perth, featuring both the Women’s and Men’s Masters Championships, commencing on 21 September and running until 7 October.

“We are delighted to be in a position to announce the venues and dates of our national events for 2023,” said Hockey Australia Chief Commercial Officer, Jennifer North.

“The appeal and enticement due to the wide demographic and popularity of our array of national championships is evidenced by the strong interest we receive from state and territory governments to host Hockey Australia events.”

“We are grateful for this level of support and investment in hockey and look forward to taking our events to the breadths of Australia, from Darwin down to Hobart, and Brisbane across to Perth.”
